Quill pens - The wing or tail feathers of a
bird were used to write. The hard, hollow
spine of the feather was cut at an angle to
               make a point.

Ink well - Small containers made of
pottery or glass were made to hold ink for
               writing.

Trade blankets - wool blankets kept
pioneers warm. They were traded by
French fur traders to the Indians for animal pelts.
The blankets were bright colors with stripes or
"point marks." A six point blanket was better than
   a four point blanket.

4r" ,/i Bonnets - Pioneer women always wore
l:t 1hh 1 bonnets or hats. It was considered bad

conduct to go without a hat in public. Hats
protected women's faces and necks from sunburn
   and kept their hair clean.

Scissors - Old scissors were hand forged
from metal. Big hand holes make them
look different than the scissors we use today.
