candle mold - some candles were made in
molds. A wick was hung into each of the
tube-like holes and hot melted beeswax
I\ was poured in around the wick. When the
melted wax hardened the candle was removed. A
family needed many candles to light their cabin on
cloudy days and at night.

were used to build the fires.
wooden bowls - Pioneers could easily
make wooden bowls by carving or
whittling a slice of tree trunk. They did not want
to pack dishes in their wagons when they traveled
through the forests of Indiana. Instead they used
the trees in the forest to make what they needed.
