ELECAMPAG NE (!nu/a I. helenium ) This herb has a bitter taste to it!
What is now a common weed w as once grown to cure coughs and colds.
It was also used to cure skin diseases on horses.
SASSAFRAS ( Sassafras S. albidum) Sassafras grows as either a tree or
a shrub. This herb has a spicy taste! When the root bark is boiled, it
makes a good tea. And its oil was used as a perfume in soap.
CHAMOMI LE (Anthemis nobilis) This plant's daisy-like flowers and leaves
may smell sweet, but they are bitter to the taste! It was used as a
poultice to cure the settlers' toothaches , or as a tonic to drink.
