Who’s There?
As you tour Copshaholm notice the many different styles of doorknobs.
1. Are the doorknobs in the public areas of the house different from those
found in the working areas of the house?
2. How are they different?
3. Why do you think this is so?
4. Can you draw the doorknobs?
Ask students to research areas of the house or garden that they are unfamiliar with
such as:
Porte Cochere
French morning room
Alcove
Butler’s pantry
Pergola
Tea House
Students may wish to draw a diagram of their own home, labeling rooms, stairs,
porches, etc.
Students may wish to create a personal timeline or one for their parents or
grandparents.
Have students write a story about plowing and farming in early America.
Chart the immigration of the Oliver family from Scotland to Mishawaka, Indiana.
