Thanksgiving Day Parade

Perhaps following in the tradition of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, first held in New York City in 1924, South Bend had its own gathering of bands and floats—this one is 1969–to celebrate the November holiday. The marching band from Donaldson’s Ancilla Domini High School was one of several entries that year. They are shown marching along Michigan Street in downtown South Bend, between the intersections of Washington Street and Jefferson Boulevard. On the west side of Michigan can be seen the store front for Schiff Shoes, located at 135 S. Michigan. Just a few buildings north, at 127 S. Michigan, is Ault Camera Shop, where Peggs Restaurant now stands. Donated by Beverly Kagel.
