Tours & Field Trips

Please note:
Groups of 10 or more people wishing to tour the Oliver Mansion must provide the museum’s Tour Coordinator with two weeks notice prior to your group’s visit.

House Tours

tours_housetoursTours of the two historic houses at The History Museum (the Oliver Mansion and the Worker’s Home) are guided by docents who will impress you with their grace and knowledge of the homes. On Monday -Saturday, tours are offered at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. On Sunday, tours are offered at 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Please plan to spend 2 hours with us for a guided tour. We regret that house tours can accommodate only a limited number of visitors. There are multiple stairs in both historic houses. Tours of the exhibits are self-guided.

Group Tours

tours_grouptoursThe History Museum likes rolling out the red carpet for tour groups. Our site includes two historic houses (the Oliver Mansion and the Worker’s Home), through which guided tours are given. Tours of the exhibits are self-guided. A warm welcome awaits tour groups on the day of their visit.

Guided tours begin promptly and our museum staff stands ready to assist any way we can. Two complimentary tickets are given to each group for the tour leader and driver. Reservations are necessary and can be made by contacting our tour coordinator at (574) 235-9664, ext. 239 or

Heritage Tours

tours_heritagetoursHeritage Tours are well-researched and provide interesting information about local buildings, sites and neighborhoods. They have been developed by The History Museum, Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend & St. Joseph County, and several other local organizations. Support for this project has been given by Visit South Bend Mishawaka and Downtown South Bend. To learn more, visit Heritage Tours.

Please note:
School groups of 10 or more students wishing to tour the Oliver Mansion must provide the museum’s Tour Coordinator with, at least, two weeks notice prior to your group’s visit. Be aware that the months of December, May, and June are very busy–make sure to call early!
